Seattle Transplant

These are a few illustrations developed for a soon to be published book by a self-published author, Lorraine Sawicki. She is a Seattle transplant that was born in New Jersey. The book is about her experiences in Seattle — The nature, culture, food, fashion and the people that make this city great. The humor is very earnest, written by a straight-shooter Jersey girl, and provides a fresh perspective about Seattle. The book is fun to read and I hope it makes it onto the shelves this year.

The client wanted the illustrations to be simple, light, heart-felt, graphic and sketchy with a limited color palette. The illustrations help to support and drive the wit and humor of each chapter’s section. The tree illustration was designed with the idea from the book: “Want to be liked, don’t cut down a tree. Trees here are sacred…”.
